The Transcendent Story of Dr. William Key and his talking horse "Jim"
HAVE NO MASTER OTHER THAN GOD AND DON'T TRUST DOCTORS
Dr. Jennifer Daniels, MD, tells a beautiful Civil War era story about a mulatto slave named William Key whose father died of drunkenness leaving his mother and two other brothers fatherless. He was adopted by his uncle who treated William like his son.
William went on to be a millionaire three times, a double agent for the Confederate and Union Armies, who established several successful businesses. He bought his uncles’ home back from the bank after bankruptcy to make sure his uncle had a place to live for the rest of his life.
But most importantly, William Key raised a racehorse named “Jim Key” that incredibly could talk, could spell out anybody’s first and last name from just the phonetic sound, could make change from a cash register, and could add and subtract. William Key’s credo was to have no master other than God, and as such was responsible for anything that befell him whether success or failure. Today, forty percent of more of deaths are attributable to following medical authorities.
This incredible story is of a man who transcended slavery, bondage, threatened execution for treason, several different families, the Civil War, and who ended up raising a horse that he had no idea would turn into a “person” and teach his master how to treat him. This story was put into book form The Beautiful Jim Key: The Lost History of the World’s Smartest Horse.
We can listen to Dr. Daniels recount the story of the horse Jim Key – here. Is it the story of “the world’s smartest horse” or really the story of William Key who lived in an even darker time than now and surmounted it all.
